KAZAN. June 5 (Interfax) - The UN Counter-Terrorism Committee said it highly valued Russia's input in the fight against international terrorism.
Russia contributes a lot to the fight against terrorism and is an active participant of this activity, UN Counter-Terrorism Committee Chairman Mohammed Loulichki told reporters on Wednesday. Loulichki is participating in an international meeting of special services in Kazan, security bodies and law enforcement authorities' chiefs of foreign countries-partners of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).
Loulichki said that annual gatherings, initiated and held by the FSB, showed that Russia was not only participating in the fight against terrorism but was also taking certain measures to consolidate efforts of the international community to resist terrorist threats.
The UN Counter-Terrorism Committee is a structure with whose help an international strategy on the fight against terrorism could be implemented, Loulichki said.
Loulichki said that it was important to hold international special service gatherings, which allowed exchanging experience in the fight against terrorism.
Terrorist groups are closely tied with the activities of criminal organizations involved in drug and weapons trafficking and illegal migration, which demands perfecting effort coordination of security agencies resisting these threats, Loulichki said.
Delegations from 63 countries and three international organizations are participating in the meeting in Kazan chaired by FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov.
