PIONERSKY, Kaliningrad region. June 6 (Interfax) - The Syrian foreign minister will lead Damascus's official delegation at an international conference on settling the crisis in that country, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference following a meeting of the Council of the Baltic Sea States.
"A pause has been taken until June 25 so far. Our American partners have assured us that they will try to do their part of the job and make sure that the National [Syrian] Coalition takes a constructive approach," Lavrov said.
"In the meantime, we will continue to work with the [Syrian] government, which has said already that it is willing to take part in the conference and that the Syrian foreign minister will lead the delegation," Lavrov said.
Russia will also continue to work with other opposition forces, as "their participation in the conference is absolutely necessary," he said.
"We will certainly seek to get their consent to make sure that the group of external participants is representative enough and is not formed based on some geopolitical or other preferences," he said.
