MOSCOW. June 18 (Interfax) - The possibility of sending Russian peacekeepers to the Golan Heights is not on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council though the Russian proposal is still standing, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told reporters on Tuesday.
"This is not the issue so far… It is not expected generally that this issue will be considered at the council," Gatilov said.
"Russia has made an offer through the president, which is still standing. We are still ready to provide our forces. We are certain that they would play a stabilizing role," Gatilov said.
Certain procedures, which are to be followed, exist on the issue. The UN Secretary General will give his proposals later.
"Syrians are ready to accept our offer. Israelis have their proposals. They are not ready yet to have Russian forces there," Gatilov said.
"There is a number of proposals from other countries to send forces," Gatilov said.
The UN has said that permanent members of the UN Security Council did not have the right to send their peacekeepers to the border between Israel and Syria.
