U.S. delegation discusses Transit Center closure in Bishkek

BISHKEK. July 12 (Interfax) - A U.S. working group has visited the Kyrgyz defense and foreign ministries to discuss the Transit Center pullout from the Bishkek Manas Airport.

The pullout was put on the agenda after Kyrgyzstan renounced the Transit Center agreement with the United States and stated that the Center must leave by July 2014, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry press service told Interfax on Thursday.

The ministries "listened to a U.S. report on security and anti-terrorist cooperation," the press service said.

The U.S. Transit Center was deployed at the airport in July 2009 to supplement the coalition airbase supporting the anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan.

A number of tanker and transport planes of the U.S. Air Force are permanently deployed there.
