MOSCOW. July 12 (Interfax) - Former CIA employee Edward Snowden has not yet appealed to the UN Refugee Agency, Russia's Public Chamber member Olga Kostina told reporters.
Kostina came to Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport to meet with Snowden.
"Edward Snowden has not asked either the UN Refugee Agency or the Russian authorities for asylum," Kostina said.
Russian human rights activists will be ready to consider assisting Snowden in terms of internal legal regulations if he declares his intention to seek asylum in Russia, Kostina said.
"It is necessary to see if his situation complies with the documents that regulate the receipt of political asylum in Russia, if so, then - yes. However, he must decide for himself first of all how he will deal with his situation because when a person provokes one of the world's most powerful special forces, he must understand that this is an exceedingly difficult situation, long-time pursuit and generally there are two outcomes - either to die heroically or to search for any asylum and to accept the conditions, which will be offered by the country that is willing to save him," Kostina told Interfax.
