MOSCOW. Aug 7 (Interfax-AVN) - First Deputy Defense Minister General Arkady Bakhin held an intercom meeting on Wednesday to discuss the involvement of servicemen and equipment of the Eastern Military District in efforts to deal with the aftermath of a flood in the Amur region and the provision of assistance to the civilian population.
"Over 1,500 servicemen and over 250 units of equipment of the Eastern Military District are now involved in the efforts to deal with the aftermath of the emergency situation and the provision of assistance to the local population," Bakhin said, opening the meeting.
The heavy rains have led to an especially serious situation in the Zeya district of the Amur region, he said. In this regard, the Russian president made a decision to use the resources of the Eastern Military District and the Emergency Situations Ministry to deal with the aftermath of the flood.
