Police studying prosecutors' report on Navalny's foreign-funded election campaign

MOSCOW. Aug 12 (Interfax) - The Russian Interior Ministry is examining a report, provided by the Prosecutor General's Office, claiming that Moscow mayoral candidate Alexei Navalny's campaign is being financed from abroad.

"The Interior Ministry has received a report from the Prosecutor General's Office about the foreign financing of Navalny's election campaign. It is being studied," Interior Ministry spokesman Andrei Pilipchuk told Interfax.

The Prosecutor General's Office said earlier on Monday that evidence has been discovered indicating that Navalny's mayoral election campaign in Moscow is being financed from abroad. The report has been referred to investigators who are expected to start a criminal inquiry.

Navalny told Interfax that there is no foreign money in his election account.
