Retailer checks reveal 4,000 violations, cast doubt on 12 police

MOSCOW. Aug 15 (Interfax) - More than 1,000 violations of migration laws were exposed in the Russian police effort to decriminalize trade outlets in the past 24 hours, the Interior Ministry Main Internal Security Department told Interfax on Thursday.

"More than 1,700 police checks were conducted across the country in the past 24 hours to decriminalize trade and expose corruption in the controlling and supervisory bodies. Over 4,300 violations were exposed, among them above 1,000 violations of migration laws and 300 violations of business regulations," a department spokesman said.

Internal security inquiries were launched into the conduct of twelve police officers.

An illegal market with multiple violations of trade regulations was discovered in a Tambov city district by internal security officers. Besides, one of the market shops was selling counterfeit alcohol.

"Internal security will scrutinize the work of officers of the police unit supervising the area within which the (illegal) market is located," he said.

There are also internal security checks on chiefs and officers of police units in two districts of the Volgograd region where illegal labor migrants have been found.
