Russia's FSB border service ready to ensure security at 2014 Olympics - Kulishov reports Putin

NOVO-OGARYOVO. Aug 15 (Interfax) - Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) border service is ready to guarantee the security of the Winter Olympics to be held in Sochi in 2014, FSB border service head Vladimir Kulishov said.

FSB deputy director and head of the FSB border service Gen. Col. Kulishov said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that he had studied the situation on-site, having made several trips.

"I have also assessed the situation concerning the security of the Olympics. A unit of the border service is generally ready to carry out the set tasks. I have gone to Abkhazia with this purpose, have inspected infrastructure of our border department in Abkhazia, including the mooring points of our ships and our offices throughout the region," Kulishov said.

Immediate conditions remains calm, Kulishov said when assessing the situation at the Russian border in general.

"First of all, I would like to report that the immediate situation at the Russian state border did not change considerably in Q2 2013. The FSB border service continues to work on implementing your tasks and previously approved plans," he said.

Kulishov said that he first inspected to the border areas of the North Caucasus Federal District, the Russian outposts and units at the Russian-Georgian and Russian-Azerbaijani borders.
