Shoigu to discuss military cooperation in Brazil, Peru

MOSCOW. Oct 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu will pay his first official visit to Brazil and Peru on October 14-17.

"During his visit to Peru on October 14-15, Sergei Shoigu will hold negotiations with his counterpart Pedro Cateriano and have a meeting with Peruvian President Ollanta Moises Humala," Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov told reporters on Wednesday.

The program of the visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil on October 16-17 includes Shoigu's visit to the Brazilian Air Force's Air Defense Command and meetings with Vice-President Michel Temer and Defense Minister Celso Luiz Nunes Amorim.

"The negotiations between the Russian defense minister and his colleagues from Peru and Brazil will explore topical global affairs, broader bilateral military cooperation and the training of Brazilian and Peruvian servicemen at Russian military schools," Antonov said.

"We expect that the first official visit of the Russian defense minister to the Republic of Peru and the Federative Republic of Brazil will open a new page in the relations between the defense departments of the Russian Federation and these countries of Latin America for the long term," Antonov said.
