No country will support Georgia in boycotting Olympics - Ivanishvili

TBILISI. Oct 15 (Interfax) - Georgia's decision not to participate in the Winter Olympics 2014 will not be supported by the global community, Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili said.

"The easiest thing is to refuse to participate in the Olympics. Is this what is resorted to and is this the thing with which we will scare the world? Not a single country will support Georgia in boycotting the Sochi Olympics and all this is because the previous Georgian administration headed by [President Mikheil] Saakashvili made a lot of mistakes," Ivanishvili said on air on Georgia's First Channel.

If the previous Georgian authorities "had a bit of common sense, Georgia would not be in the current situation," the prime minister said.

"The entire world knows that Saakashvili made mistakes and, as a result, Russian aggression occurred and barbed wire fences are being built today," Ivanishvili said.

Georgia should stop living as impulsively as it did under Saakashvili, "first declaring its participation in the Olympics, then refusing to participate, and then reconsidering its participation again," the prime minister said.

It is possible that the decision on the participation of Georgian team in the Olympic Games might be reconsidered, Ivanishvili said. "We will wait. If such a necessity arises, we will refuse to take part in the Sochi Olympics," he said.
