Secretaries of Ukrainian, Russian Security Councils meet to discuss terrorism prevention

ODESSA. Oct 18 (Interfax) - Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Andrei Klyuyev and Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev met on Wednesday to hold bilateral consultations in Odessa, an Interfax correspondent has reported.

Klyuyev and Patrushev discussed issues relating to cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine and Russia in the sphere of the security of IT and the fight against international terrorism and political extremism.

"We discussed economic security, international information security, and prevention of terrorism and political extremism," Patrushev told reporters after laying down wreaths on the Monument of the Unknown sailor to mark the anniversary of the end of the Heroic Defense of Odessa.

"We also discussed the attack on the [Ukrainian] Justice Ministry and possible interaction in the event of such cyber attacks. We also exchanged our experience in the fight against terrorism […] We will discuss such issues in the CIS in November," Klyuyev said.

In early October, officials from the Ukrainian Justice Ministry reported that its state registers had been accessed by unauthorized individuals.

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office then said a criminal case had been opened on the basis of this incident, which disabled the work of 12 state and unified registers.
