Ex-head of Dagestan's Kizilyurt district killed

MAKHACHKALA. Oct 31 (Interfax) - The former head of the Kizilyurt district of Dagestan in Russia's North Caucasus, Magomed Gadzhiyev, was shot dead in the village of Komsomolsky on Thursday, a spokesman for the local branch of the Russian Investigative Committee told Interfax.

"It has been established that the former official was killed and his driver was injured. Investigators are working at the scene," he said.

Gadzhiyev was attacked in Komsomolsky village, located near the town of Kizilyurt, he added.

"The preliminary information available suggests that gunmen armed with an automatic weapon and a pistol opened fire on his car and fled," the spokesman said.
