ALMATY. Nov 1 (Interfax) - More than 18 tonnes of various narcotic substances were confiscated during a large-scale counter-drug operation in Kazakhstan, the country's Interior Ministry said in a press release.
The effort also helped dismantle the operations of two cross-border gangs engaged in smuggling heroin to Russia through Kazakhstan and transporting synthetic drugs to Kazakhstan from Russia, it said.
Kazakh police "confiscated 22 tonnes of drugs, including 131 kilograms of heroin" from January to September 2013, the ministry said.
