MOSCOW. Nov 5 (Interfax) - The Russian Consulate is closely following the situation following the arrest of hockey player Semyon Varlamov in the United States on domestic violence charges and his release on bail.
"Russia's Consulate General in San Francisco is following the situation and is providing all necessary consular assistance to Varlamov," the Russian Foreign Ministry's commissioner for human rights, democracy and rule of law Konstantin Dolgov said on Friday.
Police detained the Russian goalkeeper of the Colorado ice hockey club on suspicion that he beat up his girlfriend. He spent a day in a solitary cell and was freed on $5,000 bail on Thursday.
"The Consulate General immediately got in touch with the police in Denver, Colorado, to arrange an urgent consular meeting with the Russian citizen," Dolgov said.
"Varlamov said by telephone that he had no requests or complaints about his living conditions," Dolgov said.
The next court hearing of the Russian ice hockey player's case has been set for November 14.
