Some progress reached in preparations for Geneva II - Gatilov

GENEVA. Nov 6 (Interfax) - Certain progress has been reached at a meeting of Russia, the United States and the United Nations for the preparation of the Geneva II conference on the Syrian settlement, Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said.

"Certain progress has been reached," Gatilov told journalists in the wake of a meeting of trilateral meeting for the Geneva II preparation.

"Debates on other issue regretfully have yet come," he said.

"In general we agreed on the text of the invitation that will be sent to participants of this event. The UN secretary general will send them to the parties in Syria and external participants of the conference," Gatilov said.

Speaking about the issues that the parties failed to solve on Tuesday, he said they mainly deal with the participation of the Syrian opposition in the conference. "They next meeting is scheduled for November 9, and our partners promised that they will seek the opposition's clear announcement of its participation in the conference," Gatilov said.

"We will wait for this, because without having the opposition consent it is naturally difficult to count on a successful holding of the conference," he said.
