Georgian nationalists want visas introduced for visitors from Asia, Africa

TBILISI. Nov 11 (Interfax) - Several dozen National Front activists held a rally in the centre of Tbilisi on Sunday in protest against uncontrolled immigration.

"We demand tighter visa and immigration rules with countries where terrorism and threat of venereal diseases may come from. If the authorities pursue this slack policy regarding immigrants, Georgians will become a minority in their home country," National Front leader Yevgeny Mikeladze told the press.

He said that it was President Mikheil Saakashvili who opened the door on immigrants from Asia and Africa after he granted a free travel regime to about 80 countries.

"We have got confronted with a situation where Georgians are not allowed to enter Turkish and Arab tea houses, cafes and bars in the center of Tbilisi," he said.

Georgian nationalists will continue protests and they will get the authoritieis "to work for the Georgian people's development and prosperity," Mikeladze said.
