MOSCOW. Nov 13 (Interfax) - The planned Geneva II international conference on the Syrian conflict is the only way to end the crisis in the Arab country, Qadri Jamil, one of the leaders of Syria's Popular Front for Change and Liberation, said on Wednesday, attacking some of the opposition leaders for alleged plans to stop the forum going ahead.
"The international community has decided to call the Geneva II conference, and so there's no room for fantasies or illusions. There are those who say that Geneva II can't materialize because the field situation can't be resolved, but this situation will never be resolved if the conference isn't called," Jamil told a news conference in Moscow on Wednesday.
"The countdown to Geneva II has begun. There are those who want to prevent the conference from going ahead and claim that it won't go ahead. Let those who don't want Geneva II say what they want. What solutions can there be besides Geneva II? I may have a hundred critical remarks and reservations, but I'm sure there is no other way," Jamil said.
"Ninety percent of the population of Syria doesn't consider themselves either supporters of the opposition or supporters of the government," he said. "They just want to live, they want their children to go to school, they don't want bombs to explode."
"The army can't solve the problem - its adversaries are also powerful. If the conflict goes on, there won't be winners in it, but, if there were winners, who would be the losers anyway?" Jamil said.
