KYIV. Nov 13 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Security Service has identified the illegal migrant, who blew up himself and two Ukrainian border guards at the Bachevsk checkpoint in the Sumy region, and his four accomplices have been detained.
"The dead man has been identified during investigative proceedings. He turned out to be a Russian citizen, native and resident of the Kabardino-Balkaria, who attempted to cross the Ukrainian state border with a passport issued for a different name. Since 2010 this individual was on Russia's federal most wanted list on suspicion of participating in an illegal armed formation," the Ukrainian Security Service press office told Interfax.
During further proceedings involving special-purpose unit Alfa the Ukrainian Security Service has detained his four accomplices suspected of being involved in organizing his illegal entry in Ukraine.
A Russian citizen, native of Kabardino-Balkaria, who is on the international most wanted list on suspicion of being involved in the terrorist attacks in the Stavropol territory in 2001, which claimed 26 lives and injured 136 people, is among the detainees. It is currently being decided on his extradition.
Fake passports and weapons have been seized from the detained men.
A flash card with photo and video materials on stay in camps of illegal armed formations in Russia has been found among the belongings of the dead man, the Ukrainian Security Service said.
The investigative proceedings continue.
