Moscow encouraged by new Georgian leaders' approach to relations with Russia - diplomat (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax) - Moscow is optimistic about the new Georgian leadership's statements regarding the future of Russian-Georgian relations, Russian State Secretary and Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said.

"We are closely following statements by the new Georgian president and believe that a lot of what the new Georgian leadership is suggesting regarding our bilateral relations suits us and basically coincides with how we see the prospects of these relations. We have a lot of room for interaction," Karasin told journalists on Thursday.

Karasin pointed out that he would meet with Georgian prime ministerial envoy for relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze in Prague in the near future.

"We will discuss problems that could be resolved now, in the present-day situation, with the newly-elected president and the new prime minister of Georgia, and will discuss how we can advance in building bilateral relations," he said.

"Development of the infrastructure of bilateral relations provides very beneficial preconditions for thinking about how to move forward," he said.

"We will be moving ahead without exaggerated expectations, patiently, calmly, and pragmatically, taking into account both Georgia's and the Russian Federation's interests," Karasin said.

He pointed out that relevant instructions had been issued by the two countries' leaderships.
