MOSCOW. Nov 15 (Interfax) - A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said it was inappropriate to draw a parallel between an attack on the Russian Embassy by nationalist rioters in Warsaw on Monday and an incident outside the Polish Embassy in Moscow the following day.
"As regards the incident outside the Polish Embassy in Moscow, it can in no way be compared to what happened near our diplomatic mission in Warsaw either in terms of scale or in terms of the causes of what happened, let alone the damage inflicted on the embassy. It will also be appropriate to mention that Russian law enforcement behaved extremely efficiently, quickly putting the Polish Embassy in Moscow under tighter security after the events in Warsaw and immediately detaining the offenders. So no parallels are appropriate there," the spokesman said on Thursday in answering a question from Interfax.
He denied media reports that the Polish Foreign Ministry demanded explanations about the Moscow incident from the Russian ambassador in Warsaw, Alexander Alexeyev.
"It is true that the Russian ambassador in Warsaw was invited to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 13 [but] he was handed a note in which the leadership of the Republic of Poland deeply deplored the events near the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Warsaw on November 11," the spokesman said.
"The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs promised an investigation and appropriate measures against the persons who broke the law. Moreover, the document stresses, 'the leadership of the Republic of Poland is interested in building Polish-Russian relations that are as good as possible," he said.
