MOSCOW. Nov 15 (Interfax) - The proposed expansion of the powers of the Federal Security Service in the sphere of information security will ensure a comprehensive approach to this area, Federal Security Service Deputy Director Yury Gorbunov said while presenting a bill amending the provisions of the federal law 'On Operational Search Activities' and Article 13 of the federal law 'On the Federal Security Service' dealing with information security in the State Duma on Friday.
The State Duma is considering the bill in its first reading now.
"Until now, no one was in charge of information security as such. There was no wide-ranging approach. There are several articles in the Criminal Code. However, the recent events have shown that there is a need for a more comprehensive approach," Gorbunov said.
Gorbunov said the bill has been evaluated by experts and will not contradict the Constitution.
"This bill has been evaluated, including by Justice Ministry experts, and did not raise any concerns. There is no reason for concern," Gorbunov said.
