Regiments in Novosibirsk and Nizhny Tagil to receive new missile systems by end of 2013 - commander (Part 2)

SOCHI. Nov 27 (Interfax) - Commander of the Strategic Missile Troops Col. Gen. Sergei Karakayev reported to President Vladimir Putin that new missile systems are planned to be delivered to two regiments in Novosibirsk and Nizhny Tagil before the end of 2013.

"All planned tasks are carried out in due time and I hope that we will report the fulfillment of set tasks to you at the end of the year," Karakayev said.

Earlier reports said that two regiments of Strategic Missile Troops - in Nizhny Tagil and Novosibirsk - started retraining for the use of the ground mobile missile system Yars.

Currently the Teikovo regiment in Ivanovo region is armed with the Yars missile system

RS-24 Yars intercontinental ballistic missiles are an upgraded version of Topol-M missile system. In the future it should replace the RS-18 and RS-20 ICBMs and together with Topol-M form the core of the strike force.

It has been announced that the Kozelsk missile regiment would also be provided with the system. Preparatory work is to be launched to rearm the Irkutsk regiment too.
