Russia expects Kazakhstan to provide full info on causes of death, wounding of Russians in Caspian Sea - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Nov 29 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has sent a verbal note to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry in connection with the death of a Russian sailor as a result of the use of weapons by Kazakh border guards in the Caspian Sea, calling the Kazakh border guards' actions illegitimate.

"We have information that the Kazakh border guards seized two small boats carrying eight Russian citizens, residents of Dagestan, on November 25. As a result of the use of firearms, one of them was killed, one was wounded, and the others were detained," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a report posted on its website on Thursday.

"In this regard, the Russian Foreign Ministry on November 26 sent a verbal note to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry stating that the said cases of illegitimate use of firearms by the border guard service and other law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Kazakhstan during the Russian fishermen's detention, in which citizens of the Russian Federation are killed and wounded, have occurred before and Russia has pointed them out to Kazakhstan more than once," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The note also states that Russia confirms its position that the use of firearms to kill suspected violators is an inappropriate and unacceptable measure and expects the Kazakh authorities to provide full and exhaustive information on the said incidents and the causes of the death and wounding of the Russian citizens, and also on the situation of the detainees," the report says.
