MOSCOW. Nov 29 (Interfax) - The Syrian government will not go for informal contacts with the opposition during the meeting planned in Moscow, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad said.
This will not happen, the Syrian authorities only meet with the opposition either in Geneva or in Damascus, Haddad told Interfax on Thursday.
Moscow has said it was ready to provide the platform in order to hold such contacts in Russia.
Russia is trying to hold informal meetings in order to exchange opinions with the opposition, Haddad said. Some opposition representatives have agreed, some have already said they were opposed, but, the majority want to come to Moscow to exchange opinions, the ambassador said. This is a very complicated mission and a difficult task for Russia, he said.
Russia is making considerable efforts to help resolve the Syrian crisis, Haddad said. The high-level diplomat said he thanked Russia for this.
