Yanukovych: Ukraine, EU soon to return to issues that need to be agreed to sign Association Agreement

VILNIUS. Nov 29 (Interfax) - Ukraine and the European Commission have agreed to return to the discussion of the issues that need to be agreed to sign an Association Agreement soon, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said, while answering a question from Interfax-Ukraine.

Yanukovych said after the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius on Friday, while talking about the future prospects for the signing of the document, that Ukraine has clearly stated that "this document is a priority. However, there also remain many extremely important conditions that are required for its signature."

"As for the conditions and the resolution of those problematic issues that currently exist in Ukraine, of course, they need to be discussed," Yanukovych said.

"Therefore, we agreed with the leadership of the European Commission that we will soon return to the discussion of this issue at a bilateral level."

He added that the discussion of the remaining issues of concern would give the opportunity to get a clear answer to the question of when the signing of an Association Agreement will be possible.

"Of course, we want to place in the forefront the issue of granting financial and economic assistance to Ukraine. This is one of the main issues," Yanukovych said.
