KYIV. Dec 3 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian opposition has demanded criminal prosecution of Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko for the dispersal of the EuroMaidan rally on November 30.
"We demand the resignation of the government and the president and the imprisonment of the interior minister. Those who do not support this resignation motion will share the responsibility for the beating of children," Batkivshchyna faction head Arseniy Yatsenyuk told the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday.
"I demand the resignation of the government and criminal prosecution of the entire administration of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry," UDAR leader Vitali Klitschko told the deputies.
He demanded that deputies of pro-governmental parties vote for a motion of no confidence in the government.
"You will bear personal responsibility if you do not," he added.
"The complete change of the regime must be legitimate. Every ground and law is available for resetting the authorities," Klitschko said.
"Neither the parliamentary leadership nor the president have drawn conclusions from the manslaughter on Independence Square," he said, adding that their reaction was "ornamental and aimed [to please] the public."
"I appeal to President Yanukovych: step down and hold an early election. This is the only way to demonstrate common sense amid the political crisis in the country. Do not do anything silly, and do not drive yourself and the country into a corner. Do not share the lot of dictators who fled their countries forever," the UDAR faction leader urged.
Cabinet members were not present at the Verkhovna Rada.
The opposition insisted on their arrival in the parliament as it intended to vote on the government's resignation.
Svoboda faction leader Oleh Tyahnybok told the parliament that the cabinet was not invited to the session because "they did not want to listen to it."
"They do not want to vote [on the resignation of the government], therefore, there will be a reaction," he said.
He suggested that Ukrainians should take to the street in order to achieve their victory over the incumbent authorities.
"Good people, rise to fight this junta, this gang… Good people, rise and set up strike committees," Tyahnybok appealed from the parliament's rostrum.
The Svoboda faction and some opposition deputies chanted "Revolution" after Tyahnybok had finished his speech.
