Policeman killed in Dagestan

MAKHACHKALA. Dec 3 (Interfax) - A police officer was shot dead in the town of Khasavyurt in Dagestan in Russia's North Caucasus on Monday evening, a spokesman for the republic's Interior Ministry told Interfax.

"It was reported that a policeman came under fire in Khasavyurt at 7:40 p.m. He was killed. The circumstances of the incident are being established," he said.

For his part, a spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee's Dagestan branch said that the attack on the officer took place on Khasavyurt's Gogol Street.

"The information available suggests that the policeman died from gunshot wounds. Investigators are working at the scene," he said.
