ST. PETERSBURG. Dec 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Navy will switch to a new system of combat training in the new training year, Admiral Viktor Chirkov, commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, said at the final meeting of the Military Council held in St. Petersburg, the press service and information department of the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax-AVN.
Opening the meeting, Admiral Chirkov quoted Pyotr Stolypin: "Russia needs a fleet that can fight a fleet meeting the most modern requirements at any minute. If Russia has a different fleet, it will only do harm, because it will inevitably fall prey to the attackers."
Speaking about the renewal of the ships and the supply of new vessels to the fleet under state procurement contracts, Chirkov said that 38 combat ships and vessels will have been supplied to the fleet before the end of this year.
