Militant killed, over 20 detained in N. Caucasus in a week - police

PYATIGORSK, Russia. Dec 17 (Interfax) - There were four recorded terrorist attacks and two armed clashes in the North Caucasus from December 7-13, the North Caucasus Federal District police authority said on Monday.

These incidents included three gun attacks and one abduction in Akhvakh district in Dagestan.

"One of the leaders of the 'Tsumada' saboteur and terrorist group, Magomed Khalitov, nicknamed Abdula, was neutralized," the authority said in a statement.

The leader of another alleged terrorist group in Dagestan, Kazimzhan Sheraliyev, was detained. He is a national of Kyrgyzstan and an emissary of international Islamist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, the statement said.

It said 20 more militants were arrested.

One civilian was killed and one more was injured in the violence.

Three weapon caches were found, from where two hand grenades, 1.4 kilograms of plastic explosive and TNT, 940 cartridges of various calibers, medicine, and an anti-personnel mine were seized.

Altogether two assault rifles, three pistols, 20 hand grenades, six grenades for grenade launchers, a landmine, two improvised explosive devices, and two kilograms of explosives were seized.
