Applied Chemistry Research Institute deputy director killed in Sergiyev Posad - source

MOSCOW. Dec 27 (Interfax) - A deputy director of the Research Institute of Applied Chemistry, a unit of the Rostec state corporation, was shot dead in Sergiyev Posad, Moscow region.

The murder was committed at about 11 p.m. on Thursday, a source from law enforcement authorities told Interfax.

According to eyewitnesses, an unknown man carrying a handgun shot the deputy director and escaped from the crime scene.

"The victim was a retired police colonel. He dealt with security issues of the institute," the source said.

The Research Institute of Applied Chemistry develops military and civilian pyrotechnics, such as the Plamya stun grenade for special-purpose units. The Osa multipurpose nonlethal self-defense system is one of its best known civilian products.
