VOLGOGRAD. Dec 30 (Interfax) - Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Alexander Bortnikov has said he is all but sure that the bombings in Volgograd will be solved.
"Active work is being done to investigate the two terrorist attacks in Volgograd. I think we will be able to solve these crimes, especially taking into account that there are certain clues," Bortnikov said in summing up outcomes of a joint session of the National Antiterrorist Commission and the crisis center in Volgograd.
The participants in the session elaborated on extra measures to provide security to the people and sites that could potentially be targeted by bombers, he said.
"The National Antiterrorist Commission held a session today, and, based on its decisions, extra measures have been developed of which I've said - and they were announced at our session - on providing security to the people during the New Year's holidays. This concerns places of mass concentrations of people, transport infrastructure, and the fuel and energy complexes," Bortnikov said.
Security services are making joint efforts with local self-government bodies "to pursue safeguarding measures," he said.
"This includes additional Interior Forces units that will work on the street together with policemen, and also non-governmental organizations, such as [volunteer patrolmen], Cossacks, and others," he said.
"We'll work together and provide conditions for people's safety outdoors," Bortnikov said.
He also called on the people to take the tighter security measures with understanding.
The security and law enforcement agencies have been put on alert at the president's instruction, he said.
"This concerns both the International Ministry and other law enforcement and security bodies in Volgograd and other regions," Bortnikov said.
