Syrian govt provides list of its delegation for Geneva II - Lavrov (Part 2)

PARIS. Jan 13 (Interfax) - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has sent invitations to participants in the Geneva II conference and the Syrian government has already provided a list of members of its delegation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after negotiations with his U.S. counterpart John Kerry.

There are two women on the list of members of the Syrian delegation, Lavrov said.

Lavrov also said he is concerned about the delay from the opposition.

"I met with a delegation of the National Coalition led by Ahmad Jarba yesterday. We stated our concerns and called on the National Coalition to decide on its attitude as soon as possible and work with other opposition groups so that the delegation of those who oppose the regime really represent the opposition as does the Geneva communique of July 30, 2013," Lavrov said.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Special Representative on Syria Lahdar Brahimi have reached agreements on a number of important issues, Lavrov said. "Firstly, we firmly want Geneva II to be called on January 22, as was announced," he said.

It has also been confirmed that the upcoming conference should be devoted to full fulfillment of the Geneva communique of June 30, he said. "By the way, that envisions the solution of issues relating to exchange of prisoners, issues relating to ceasefire, and issues relating to the delivery of humanitarian assistance to people who need it," Lavrov said.
