Kyrgyzstan withdrawals ambassador from Tajikistan

BISHKEK. Jan 14 (Interfax) - Bishkek has withdrawn its ambassador from Tajikistan in order to hold consultations due the armed clashes at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border in the Batken region in southern Kyrgyzstan.

"Kyrgyz Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Tajikistan Urmat Saralaev has been recalled to Bishkek," the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry press office told Interfax by the telephone on Tuesday.

The ambassador has been summoned to Bishkek "in order to hold consultations due the armed conflict, which occurred on January 11 in the Batken region near the Kyrgyz-Tajik border line," the Foreign Ministry said.

During the gunfire exchange between Kyrgyz and Tajik border guards on January 11 six Kyrgyz servicemen, including five border guards and a serviceman of the Kyrgyz Interior Ministry's special rapid response detachment, were wounded.
