MOSCOW. Jan 15 (Interfax) - A group of militants have been killed during a counterterrorism operation in Dagestan's Khasavyurt District, two of them have been identified, three special unit combatants were killed and yet another five injured, the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) told Interfax.
"During the siege of a property in Karlanyurt the bandits put up armed resistance and, taking advantage of the darkness, tried to break through the cordon using automatic weapons and grenades. Only thanks to the special unit's selfless and courageous actions has this attempt been stopped," the agency said in a statement.
Three special unit servicemen were killed and yet another five sustained various injuries, it said. "Civilians were not hurt during the special operation," the NAC said.
The agency named the slain militants, who have already been identified. One of them is Marat Idrisov, the leader of the so-called Khasavyurt gang.
