Syrian National Coalition still undecided on Geneva II participation - opposition (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Jan 16 (Interfax) - The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces has yet to decide whether to attend the Geneva II international conference, the issue will be discussed in Istanbul on Friday, the coalition's representative Munzer Mahos said in Paris.

"I have no information as to whether some decision has been made and whether some part of the coalition has decided on Geneva II participation. We are meeting in Istanbul tomorrow, and will discuss there whether or not to participate," he told Interfax.

"My information is that no decision has yet been made," the representative said.

Mahos declined to predict which decision is likely to be made at the Friday meeting in Istanbul.

"For now, it is better not to comment on these issues. There is a saying, "What must be paid for today will be free tomorrow." So let us wait until tomorrow, at least after tomorrow, when everything is free," he said.

The meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and National Coalition Chairman Ahmad Jarba in Paris on January 12 was useful, Mahos said.

"I was present there. The atmosphere was good. The meeting was useful but right now it is difficult to assess the result it has led to," he said.
