MOSCOW. Jan 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The Defense Ministry has fully abandoned the use of foot wraps in the army, having purchased for the troops over 2 million pairs of summer socks and 1.2 million pairs of winter ones, Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov told reporters on Thursday.
"There are no foot wraps in the Armed Forces. Troops have fully switched to the socks we have purchased," he said.
The Armed Forces have also switched to winter lace-up boots, of which 853,000 pairs were bought this year alone, Bulgakov added.
"We purchased and supplied troops with over two million sets of knitted underwear," the deputy minister also said.
In addition, the Defense Ministry has purchased over 220,000 daily uniforms, he said. "All officers will switch to wearing this uniform before the end of January," he said.
Also, the troops received 100,000 new field uniforms, and 18 formations and military units have already changed to all-season basic outfits, Bulgakov said.
"Army conscripts and cadets have all been provided with tracksuits. This year alone we purchased and supplied 210,000 tracksuits," he said.
