Syrian FM asks for Moscow's assistance in Aleppo ceasefire plan implementation (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - Damascus has asked the Russian Foreign Ministry for its assistance in the approval of the Aleppo ceasefire plan.

"I have requested that Minister Lavrov have the contacts necessary for the implementation of this plan and the setting of a precise timeframe for the cessation of all military operations in that region," Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mualem told a press conference in Moscow on Friday after his negotiations with Russian colleague Sergei Lavrov.

He also said he had informed Lavrov about the readiness of the Syrian authorities to exchange POW lists with the opposition and "to design a mechanism required for the achievement of these goals."

The Syrian foreign minister said that he had informed his Russian colleague about the Thursday delivery of humanitarian aid to a Syrian village and promised similar supplies to another populated locality.

"Everything is being done in coordination with the UN and consistent with requests of the Russian side. Hopefully, this experience may be spread into other villages on the condition the armed groups and terrorists stick to their commitment not to open fire at humanitarian convoys," the Syrian minister said.
