ASTANA. Jan 21 (Interfax-AVN) - Israeli President Shimon Peres has proposed during a meeting with Kazakh Defense Minister Adilbek Dzhaksybekov in Jerusalem to hold joint drills of the Israeli and Kazakh armed forces at Kazakh ranges, the Kazakh Defense Ministry press office said in a statement on January 20.
For many years the Kazakh-Israeli relations were developing fruitfully and Israel is ready to cooperate in high-tech sector, the document quoted Peres as saying.
Kazakhstan attaches special importance to expanding investment and technical cooperation, Dzhaksybekov said.
"Today the main trend for the development of the Kazakh armed forces is making them professional. Forms and means of doing battle have changed in modern times and the weapons and military equipment used in them require highly trained specialists - military professionals. Amid this context, we attach special importance to the opportunity of studying and training with the Israeli Armed Forces," Dzhaksybekov said.
"I am certain that today's meeting with Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon and the agreement we signed on military and technical cooperation will contribute to further development of cooperation in this sector," Dzhaksybekov said.
The designs of the Israeli defense industry are in demand worldwide and Kazakhstan is no exception, the statement said. As of today, Kazakhstan has set contact with such Israeli military enterprises as Rafael, IMI, Elbit Systems, IAI and Ness.
