Solutions to all issues should suit both Serbia and Kosovo - Russian foreign minister

MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax) - Moscow supports EU-mediated negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"There is no way to rewrite history, but we ought to do everything we can to bring stability to the Balkans. We are vigorously contributing to these efforts in a wide variety of formats. We are ready to support the processes that have been launched between Belgrade and Pristina with the European Union's mediation," Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow on Tuesday.

"Doubtless, only solutions that will suit both sides have a right to exist," he said.

"We cannot impose any ideas or bans on any side. Serbia and all the other nations of the Balkans should determine their interests on their own and should be guided by these interests as they made decisions concerning the future life in this region. We will support a choice made by each of these nations. The need to abide by the previously agreed international legal framework is out of the question," the Russian minister said.
