MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax) - Almost 2,000 people have been relieved of criminal liability due to the amnesty declared by the State Duma over the 20th anniversary of the Russian Constitution in December 2013, the Russian Federal penitentiary Service press office said in a statement obtained by Interfax on Tuesday.
"As of January, 1,962 people have been released from penitentiary facilities. And 132 of them were in correctional colonies and 18 - in juvenile correctional facilities," the press office said.
According to the information of the Penitentiary Service, 1,626 people, who were registered in penal inspections, have been pardoned as well.
"One hundred sixty seven people, regarding whom criminal cases were closed by inquiry and preliminary investigation bodies and courts, have been released from pre-trial detention facilities and house arrest. Nineteen people have been pardoned by courts," the statement said.
It has been reported that on December 18, 2013, the State Duma passed a resolution On Declaring Amnesty Due to the 20th Anniversary of the Russian Constitution.
