TBILISI. Jan 21 (INtefax) - Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze expects the European Union's co-chair of the Geneva talks, Philippe Lefort, to provide explanations concerning the statements he made in Tskhinvali on Monday.
"He is arriving in Tbilisi tomorrow and I will try to ask him how accurately his words were cited in the media," she told reporters on Tuesday. "I don't know if Lefort's statements were cited correctly," the Georgian foreign minister said.
"I hope this information is untrue," she said.
Lefort was quoted as saying that, "the status of South Ossetia as an independent state has long been determined by its people," he said.
"I would like to say that Georgia will never put up with its territorial loss" Panjikidze said.
If Lefort's alleged statement is confirmed Georgia will turn to the European Union for explanations, she said.
