Gang leader eliminated in Dagestan - NAC

MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax) - The leader of the Babayurt criminal group, Eldar Magatov, has been eliminated in Dagestan, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) has announced.

"The gang leader was killed in a gunfight. He was tentatively identified as Eldar Magatov, 30, who was leader of the Babayurt criminal armed group. He was a member of the Batayev gang active in Chechnya before 2006," NAC told Interfax.

Magatov moved to Dagestan in January 2011. The gang's criminal record includes large-scale extortion from businessmen, bombings and a series of attempts on the lives of law enforcement officials, the NAC said.
