MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Defense Ministry has been effectively fulfilling the task that was set by the president of assigning advanced combat and special weapon systems to the armed forces, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told the ministry's senior officials on Tuesday.
"The main emphasis has been laid on purchases of innovative systems which account for 70% of the weaponry to be provided under the state armaments program," he said.
"This will guarantee the set pace of modernization," he said.
"By 2020 the share of modern weapons, and combat and special systems will increase to over 70%," Shoigu said.
"The Defense Ministry has thoroughly defined the parameters of the armed forces' modernization under the state armaments program through 2020," he said.
