Successful Syrian chemical arms scrapping to contribute to Montreux conference - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Jan 22 (Interfax) - Advancement in the scrapping of Syrian chemical weapons will contribute to the Geneva II international conference, in the opinion of Moscow.

"Progress made on the destruction of Syrian chemical weapons would be of great help to the conference. We take notice of cooperation between the Syrian government, the OPCW and the UN. The successful accomplishment of this process alongside the implementation of the agreements on the Iranian nuclear program will make an actual contribution to the promotion of a zone free from weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at the Geneva II opening ceremony on Wednesday.
