MOSCOW. Jan 22 (Interfax) - Russia's former defense minister Anatoly Serdyukov may be questioned as a witness in connection with the fraud case opened against his son-in-law Valery Puzikov.
"Because this criminal case involves fraud in the execution of the Russian Defense Ministry's state contract, law enforcement agencies may have questions to former defense minister Anatoly Serdyukov, too," a source with knowledge on the situation told Interfax on Wednesday.
"It's common practice. Serdyukov has been questioned in connection with similar cases many times," the source said.
Serdyukov's lawyer Genrikh Padva told Interfax he has no intention of commenting on this information.
The Russian Investigations Committee earlier confirmed that a criminal case had been opened against Puzikov. The former defense minister's relative is suspected of large-scale fraud, misappropriation, and embezzlement by a group of persons.
