Syrians should themselves find compromise on new govt - Lavrov

MONTREUX, Switzerland. Jan 23 (Interfax) - Conflicting parties in Syria should themselves reach a compromise on personalities in the country's government and the terms of holding elections, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"Only a compromise on personalities and on when to hold elections based on agreements between Syrian parties is possible," Lavrov told a news conference in the wake of the Geneva II conference on Syria answering to a question on the future of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

"One should solve the problem that we have just talked about - to ensure a truly representative nature of the inter-Syrian dialog but Syrians themselves should decide - in order for this to become a sustainable fulfillment of agreements," Lavrov said.
