DUBAI. Jan 23 (Interfax) - The Syrian government has described the report about the torture of convicts in Syrian jails as groundless, politicized and biased, a communique of the Syrian Justice Ministry published on Wednesday says.
"No doubt that the authors that published the report are pursuing political objectives. They try to undermine the efforts designed to restore peace in Syria and put an end to terrorism," ministry officials said noting with regret that the report was circulated shortly before the beginning of Geneva II international conference.
The ministry noted that the London-based Carter & Ruck legal firm that edited the text of the report is linked "with forces hostile" to Syria.
"The report is simply a set of photos of persons whose identities have not been established. It features several foreign terrorists of different nationalities who died when they attacked checkpoints and civilian institutions," the communique says.
The ministry said that the other victims shown in the report are civilians and soldiers tortured and killed by "armed terrorists" for supporting the Syrian government.
