Queue management system to be launched in Vyborg section of Russian-Finnish border in mid-2014

ST. PETERSBURG. Jan 24 (Interfax) - The Federal Agency for Development of State Border Facilities (Rosgranitsa) is preparing to launch a queue management system in the Vyborg section of the Russian-Finnish border which is the busiest section, the agency's northwestern department said.

The Vyborg sector operates three international motor checkpoints - Torfyanovka, Brusnichnoye and Svetogorsk.

A queue management system has been successfully functioning at the Kunichina Gora and Shulimkino checkpoints on the Russian-Estonian border as a pilot project.

"The primary objective of the queue management system is to deal with numerous vehicles standing in long lines at checkpoints. It will ease the traffic in Svetogorsk and improve environmental conditions in that city," the report said.

The border crossing time will be booked on the Rosgranitsa operator website, and the name of the driver, the type of the vehicle and its registration number will be indicated.

The drivers will arrive in the logistics area in the direct proximity of the motor checkpoint in advance, an operator will record the arrival of their vehicles and the registration number of vehicle, which will be the next to enter into the checkpoint, and will be shown on the display.

The Finnish Transport Agency is designing the project.

The project will be launched in the third quarter of 2014. A working group is discussing the site for the construction of the prospective logistics area near the Svetogorsk checkpoint and ways to finance the project.

"The pilot project of the queue management system may turn permanent if it brings positive results supported with a normative legal act," the press service said.
