KALININGRAD. Jan 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia's Baltic Fleet commander, Vice Admiral Viktor Kravchuk and a group of Russian officials will visit the city of Brest in western France at the beginning of February, the fleet's spokesman Captain 2nd Rank Vladimir Matveyev told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.
"The visit of representatives of the Russian Navy will come at the invitation of the French Navy's commander in the Atlantic as part of the plan for promoting cooperation between the Russian Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces of foreign states," Matveyev said.
During the trip to Brest, the Russian naval officers will visit the main French naval base in the Atlantic, and the commanders will discuss steps to further promote bilateral cooperation between France's Navy and the Baltic Fleet, he said.
Apart from that, Kravchuk will visit the Lanveoc-Poulmic Air Base, where he will be offered an insight into French soldiers' conditions of military service and day-to-day life and will be shown some of the aircraft used by the French Navy.
"Our schedule also includes a visit by the Russian delegation to a hydrographic survey ship, the Portzic lighthouse, Landevennec Abbey, as well as a naval museum in the city of Brest," Matveyev said.
This year, Russian military delegations are also expected to visit Denmark, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. Russian naval officers will attend a number of conferences as part of preparations for international maneuvers that will involve Baltic Fleet ships.
